What do we expect from our HVAC systems?
 |
The Basic Needs

At a minimum, here's what we like to see in a properly functioning system:
- Ability to maintain comfort in every room (heating, cooling, & humidity control)
- Ability to maintain a healthy living environment (clean, fresh air)
- It is optimized for maximum efficiency (keep what you pay for)
- It doesn’t endanger the safety of the occupant (combustion safety + infiltration)
- It doesn’t decrease the durability of the building (infiltration + humidity control)
The Missing Links
Based on what we see in the field, there seem to be a few missing links:
- The majority of units are improperly sized (excessive cost + poor humidity control)
- Units have been replaced/added without addressing ductwork defficiencies
- Air filtration is being ignored (harms system efficiency and air quality)
- Systems are not calibrated for maximum efficiency/effectiveness
- There is a lack of fresh-air ventilation (people & houses need to breathe)
